God sees who we really are before we can see it ourselves. He knows I am not my anger; I am not my fear or my pride – those don’t shape my true identity. Therefore, His work in our lives is not about changing us into someone different, it’s about empowering us to become who we really are.

We are constantly tempted to base our identity on the great things we do. Jesus was tempted with this too: leap from the top of the temple, do something impressive so people will like you! But Jesus said, “I don’t need to do something impressive. I am loved by God, and that is enough.”
