German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote about the art of dying well. As the Nazi’s came to power, Bonhoeffer saw the church totally collapse. It disappeared. It failed to maintain any influence on society. Why? Bonhoeffer concluded that it was because the church didn’t know how to die. What was missing from the lives of Christians in Germany was the day to day reality of dying to self. He said “When Christ calls a man, He bids him come and die.”
Have you learned the art of dying? Do you daily take up your cross and die to self? If we want to reclaim our identity as the church triumphant, this is the only way.
