What Do You Think About God?

Wrong ideas about God will destroy our lives. Wrong ideas about God poison relationships, homes, and churches. I’ve heard it said that all human troubles come from thinking of God wrongly. How we think about God is not just an intellectual matter. It’s a matter of the kind of people we become. It’s a matter of what we commit ourselves to in life. It determines our character, it determines our attitude, it determines our habits. And that’s why one of the most important things to God is that we think about Him correctly as He really is. That’s why when Jesus came, He essentially said, “Forget everything you think you know about God, I’m going to tell you what He’s really like.” And we might realize this morning that we actually haven’t spent a lot of time looking into what God is really like. Maybe it’s time for us to get serious about knowing God. Because I’m here to tell you this morning that the better we know God the better our lives will be.

Knowledge of the Invisible

The most important things in life are in fact not visible – love, friendship, knowledge, belief, truth, real beauty, (here’s one for the scientists out there) mathematics, Satan (who’s pretty important), and finally the most important thing of all – God.  And if our attention is focused on the visible world, if our hearts are given to material things, we will be disconnected from reality and we will end up turning away from our wonderful, invisible God.  Therefore, we have a choice (it’s probably the most important choice we have): will I focus on the seen or the unseen in my life? Will I live for things I can see, or things that are hidden? Will I work for the visible or the invisible? This one question will determine our attitudes, our actions, and ultimately our destiny in life. And God calls us today into a life in His invisible kingdom that is in fact more real than anything we can see.

A Day With Jesus

I want you to know this morning that Jesus is very literally standing outside the door of our church. And the prize He is offering is a special fellowship with Him we do not now have. One where all the treasures of His kingdom are ours.  Perhaps you feel as if you’re on the other side of the door when it comes to experiencing the joy, peace, and power of Jesus in your life. You’ve read about it. You’ve seen it described. And you’ve tried to use conventional methods to get it. You go to church. You pray before meals. You attend Bible Study. But it still feels as if it’s on the other side of the glass.  He stands out there knocking. He stands out there calling our name. And the question for us is: How bad do we want to open that door? Are we willing to think outside the box? Are we willing to use methods most people aren’t willing to use? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to have that special fellowship with Him?

A God for All Seasons

I want to talk about the fact that male or female, young or old, rich or poor, we have a God that truly is sufficient for all seasons, all situations, all circumstances. We have one God who can create, sustain, provide, strengthen, encourage, and bless – He does it all. And He is all we need, no matter what we face. And we have even more. Because not only do we have the god of money, the god of success, the god of reputation, the god of pleasure, and the god of family, we have millions of people who live to please and honor themselves. Millions of people who live trusting themselves. Millions of people who serve the god or goddess of self.  I’m going to assume that most of you would say that God is first in your life. So my question for you now is: What’s number two? Would you shout out your answers? My number two is: self. Whatever number two is the biggest threat to number one. And that’s the first thing we need to lay down.  And if we are willing to do that, we will find that God is the only One we need. We have a God great enough to handle every situation we face. And He wants to be our one God for all seasons.
