Would You Live in the Truth?

Lies are Satan’s only hope. If you were to remove all lies from our society, the kingdom of evil would disappear. If you were to remove the truth, our society would destroy itself … and Satan knows it. That’s why he is working overtime to mock, discredit, and ridicule the truth. And many people today are just fine living in a world of lies. And this is where we the people of God must take a stand … to no longer tolerate falsehood or little white lies. We must decide that we are going to be people who seek the truth … live in the truth … embrace the truth … whether it makes us feel good or not … whether it’s convenient or not.

The Secret of Contentment

Think about all Paul had been through – imprisonments, floggings, near-death experiences again and again. He was repeatedly whipped, beaten, shipwrecked, and in danger. He faced sleeplessness, real hunger and thirst; at times he had no shelter and even no clothes. And through it all, he discovered a secret our world does not understand – how to be content. What kind of man was this? Was he living in the real world? The truth is: he was living in the most real world. And we can too.  But like Paul, we do not learn this secret overnight. We will not learn it if we run from uncomfortable situations. We will not learn it if we build our lives around material things; if we think the secret to our happiness is one more pleasure, one more dollar, one more thing.

New Life

Did you know that 25% of all web searches are for pornography? 25%. The revenues of the porn industry in the U.S. are bigger than the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball combined, and that’s just the stuff that’s reported. 70% of men aged 18-24 visit porn sites every month, and 1 in 3 porn users are women. And Christians are just as guilty, with a recent Barna study found that 64% of Christian men and 15% of Christian women admit to viewing pornography at least once a month.  Today I will be addressing the elephant in the room that the church has been largely unwilling to address – the rampant pornography and infidelity among Christians. Many of Christianity’s greatest men have struggled in this area – from Augustine to Thomas Aquinas to Paul himself. Yet Jesus has shown in each of these cases that He is stronger and able to conquer the problems of infidelity and lust.  And today He wants to lead every person who is allowing even a hint of sexual promiscuity to remain in their lives … to freedom and new life.

The Joy of Loving

Often, in trying to prove the superiority of Jesus, we focus on the fact that only Jesus rose from the dead. And that’s true. But deeper still, only Jesus lived and died with a selfless and sacrificial love for everyone. And the historical power of Jesus comes from the fact that not only did He live a life of sacrificial, joyful love, He can enable others to do the same.  And that’s the good news – that you and I can be born into a brand new life of love that nothing in all the universe can stop or stand against. Not the wickedness of men, the cruelty of life, not even death itself can stop such a life! It will overcome every barrier placed in its way – it will overcome every suffering, evil, and death. It will endure.  The only question for us is: Do we want to be possessed by this kind of love? Do we want to be filled to the brim with a love that neither death nor life, angels nor demons, nor anything else in all creation can overcome?
