New Life

Did you know that 25% of all web searches are for pornography? 25%. The revenues of the porn industry in the U.S. are bigger than the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball combined, and that’s just the stuff that’s reported. 70% of men aged 18-24 visit porn sites every month, and 1 in 3 porn users are women. And Christians are just as guilty, with a recent Barna study found that 64% of Christian men and 15% of Christian women admit to viewing pornography at least once a month.  Today I will be addressing the elephant in the room that the church has been largely unwilling to address – the rampant pornography and infidelity among Christians. Many of Christianity’s greatest men have struggled in this area – from Augustine to Thomas Aquinas to Paul himself. Yet Jesus has shown in each of these cases that He is stronger and able to conquer the problems of infidelity and lust.  And today He wants to lead every person who is allowing even a hint of sexual promiscuity to remain in their lives … to freedom and new life.

The Joy of Loving

Often, in trying to prove the superiority of Jesus, we focus on the fact that only Jesus rose from the dead. And that’s true. But deeper still, only Jesus lived and died with a selfless and sacrificial love for everyone. And the historical power of Jesus comes from the fact that not only did He live a life of sacrificial, joyful love, He can enable others to do the same.  And that’s the good news – that you and I can be born into a brand new life of love that nothing in all the universe can stop or stand against. Not the wickedness of men, the cruelty of life, not even death itself can stop such a life! It will overcome every barrier placed in its way – it will overcome every suffering, evil, and death. It will endure.  The only question for us is: Do we want to be possessed by this kind of love? Do we want to be filled to the brim with a love that neither death nor life, angels nor demons, nor anything else in all creation can overcome?

How to Live Long

There is a deep desire within all of us to enjoy a long, healthy life. We don’t want our lives to end. But despite all of our best efforts and billions of dollars spent, our world has not been able to unlock the secret to a longer life. I have found the answer. It has been in God’s word all this time as plain as day. And I’m going to share it with you this morning. God Himself has given us a surefire way to enjoy not only a longer life but a rich, abundant life that never ends. And it doesn’t require you to eat bland food, organic food, or low-calorie food. You don’t have to buy a book or have a lot of money. Believe it or not, it’s actually enjoyable. The only requirement is that we honor other people, starting with our parents. God says that if we choose to do this we will enjoy a long, abundant life. But as so many people today are willing to reorganize their schedules, their finances, and the way they live for all those failed strategies to add years to their lives, are we willing to do things God’s way for a guaranteed path to a blessed eternal life?

What Do You Think About God?

Wrong ideas about God will destroy our lives. Wrong ideas about God poison relationships, homes, and churches. I’ve heard it said that all human troubles come from thinking of God wrongly. How we think about God is not just an intellectual matter. It’s a matter of the kind of people we become. It’s a matter of what we commit ourselves to in life. It determines our character, it determines our attitude, it determines our habits. And that’s why one of the most important things to God is that we think about Him correctly as He really is. That’s why when Jesus came, He essentially said, “Forget everything you think you know about God, I’m going to tell you what He’s really like.” And we might realize this morning that we actually haven’t spent a lot of time looking into what God is really like. Maybe it’s time for us to get serious about knowing God. Because I’m here to tell you this morning that the better we know God the better our lives will be.
